FAQs About Mindful Breastfeeding Support

10 Common Questions

Breastfeeding support west sussex

When should I seek breastfeeding support?

You can seek breastfeeding support at any stage. During pregnancy, in the early days after birth, or months into feeding. Support can help with latch issues, pain, low milk supply, confidence, or emotional overwhelm. Accessing breastfeeding support during pregnancy is highly recommended for an informed, empowered and confident start to your breastfeeding journey.

Is breastfeeding support only for when something goes wrong?

No. Many mothers seek breastfeeding support to feel prepared, reassured and emotionally supported whilst they are pregnant not just to seek support if problems arise once the baby (or babies) are born. Antenatal preparation and mindful guidance can actually prevent difficulties before they arise.

Can breastfeeding support help with anxiety or emotional overwhelm?

Yes. Feeding challenges often affect emotional wellbeing. Mindful breastfeeding support acknowledges the emotional load of feeding and offers space to feel heard, supported and less alone alongside the practical elements of support. It focuses on the mind/body connection and how this balance is key to a successful and enjoyable feeding journey. Mindful breastfeeding utilises guided meditation, relaxation, breathing techniques and affirmations all of which support with anxiety and/or overwhelm.

Can I book a one off session?

Yes. I offer support from pregnancy to the end of feeding journeys and everything inbetween. One off sessions can be really useful for transitions such as introducing solids or weaning from breastfeeding or to troubleshoot breastfeeding problems as/when they arise. Please get in touch to book a session.

What happens in a breastfeeding reflection session?

A breastfeeding reflection session offers gentle space to talk through your feeding journey or journeys. Mothers come to me experiencing feelings such as disappointment, that they were failed by medical services, trauma around complex birth and/or feeding issues such as tongue tie and grief that feeding journeys ended sooner than they had hoped or abrubtly due to unforeseen circumstances. These sessions focus on emotional processing, validation and the opportunity for closure. These sessions can be integral in processing a previous feeding journey whilst pregnant with another baby in hopes of different outcomes this time around.

I haven’t practiced mindfulness before. What happens in a mindful breastfeeding session?

Mindful breastfeeding support is different from other breastfeeding support because it is a 360 holistic approach to feeding. Sessions include guided meditation or guided relaxations, use of essential oils, affirmation writing, breathing techniques and exploring the mind/body connection of breastfeeding. It is about supporting you to relax and feel grounded whatever stage of your feeding journey.

Absolutely! In fact I highly encourage this especially in antenatal sessions. Breastfeeding education and support is essential for both parents as feeding is a team effort. The more informed both partners are, the more empowered they feel and this supports a successful feeding journey.
